IRRIG8: Linear Move Calibration

This calibration tool is designed to meet the IrrigationNZ: NZ Irrigation System Performance Assessment Code of Practice – Part G: Linear Move. Download the code for more guidance.  For a more comprehensive assessment, see the Linear Move Evaluation tool.

NOTE: IRRIG8 does not store your data or keep any records. Leaving or refreshing this page will delete all your data, so print reports and export the data or graphs if you want to save them. To have a copy you can reload and edit, download the Save Session csv file and save it. This tool lets you upload it again to automatically repopulate all your data.

Beta version: See disclaimer at foot of page

🚜 Linear Move Quick Check v1.0.0

Calibration check following the IrrigationNZ Code of Practice Part G, Section 2

💾 Save or Reload a Check

Save everything entered on all tabs, plus the results, to a CSV file on your computer. Load it later to fill the tool back in and recalculate.

Files stay on your computer; nothing is uploaded to the website. Loading replaces what is currently entered.

🚜 Machine
Wetted radius beyond the far end tower
At the inlet end; only used with two end guns
Machine length + 75% of each end gun wetted radius
Optional. Leave blank to use the calculated value.
Optional. Sections with sprinklers off
Width of the wetted strip in the direction of travel
📐 Runs & Block Area
b in Code Figure 2.2. Average several runs if they differ
a in Code Figure 2.2, e.g. the average hydrant spacing. Blank = irrigated width of the machine
Run length × run spacing × number of runs ÷ 10,000
🎯 Management Information
Optional. The setting usually used
Optional

Optional. With the machine running
📏 System Pressures
Above any pressure regulator, at the nozzle at the tower
e.g. 10 psi or 70 kPa
Advisory, default 40 kPa (Nelson and Senninger: at least 5 psi / 34 kPa). Below the Code Part G minimum of 20 kPa is always flagged.
💧 Collectors

24 containers with the same known opening (over 150 mm; 9 litre buckets work well) in a row along the machine: 8 evenly under the first span or two, 8 in the middle of the machine, and 6 under the last span or two. If there is an end gun, put the last 2 between the end wheel track and the edge of significant wetting; otherwise put them under the last span. Avoid the wheel tracks.

Set Out Collectors fills in suggested distances. Replace them with the actual distances if they differ. Record each volume against the correct position.

⏱️ Speed Test

Put two flags along the line of travel near the wheel track of the machine centre tower, at least 5 m either side of the collector line and easily visible. Time the machine between the flags, including any stops.

min s

What is calculated

  • Irrigator speed and time for each run
  • Applied depth, overall and under the first, middle and last spans and end gun
  • Distribution uniformity and the excess water use factor
  • Application intensity, and flow worked out from the collectors
  • The speed or timer setting to apply your target depth to 7/8 of the area
